Any primary teacher knows the importance of choosing engaging and worthwhile reading activities in order to ensure you don’t get constantly interrupted with your guided group during guided reading. Here’s a quick idea you could try with one of your groups this week…
Go to First News and copy the text from one of their articles. Now go to textivate.com and paste it into the white box and click on textivate now to turn that text into a reading activity. There are over 30 reading activities that basically involve putting the text back into the right order or working out missing words or letters. It is easy to differentiate because some of the activities split the text up into more ‘chunks’ than others.
These browser-based activities work well individually on laptops or in groups on an interactive whiteboard.
